In Genesis chapter one, God created lights, water, earth, day, night, animals, grass, fruit yielding trees, sea life, all living creatures on land and sky, and humanity. Then God called it all good.
By Genesis chapter three, the plot takes a twisted turn for the worst when Satan tainted mankind for all time with his venomous sin. Satan’s attack would ripple through time and cause man live out his days in a feeble attempt to conquer sin. It was impossible for man, so God instituted sacrificial death of animals as a way to roll their sins forward, but there was no real victory. It is this plight of human condition that Israel longed to be saved from, whether they actually knew it or not. They thought they needed a political savior, but in God’s sovereign way, He showed them that they needed so much more.
Jesus turned it all around when He came to earth.
He was born in a barn to two lowly townsfolk just like you and me. Joseph and Mary were longing for a savior too, but it never occurred to them that One could be sent to save not from political turmoil, but from the sin condition.
No person on earth could even think on such a plane!
But God, whose thoughts are higher than ours, knew exactly what we needed. Instead of sending a king with pomp and royal robes, He sent a Messiah: Immanuel – God with us.
Adam and Eve changed us forever, but Jesus changed us for good.
Jesus, thank You for coming to earth and saving us from the slavery of sin.
