God is light. God is spirit. God created us in His own image. He created us to be light and spirit as His image bearers.
In our most natural state, one that we are not accustomed to thinking about, we saw and perceived the world around us through spiritual eyes. The light of God was mankind, and we were like light bulbs illuminating the spiritual realm around us. We naturally saw as God wanted us to see because we were connected to God – plugged into our power source of light and spirit.
But then, Eve partook of the forbidden tree and her physical eyes were opened. Suddenly, our lights went out. Spiritual death occurred and we could only see things in the physical realm.
We, the rest of humanity, daughters and sons of the Adamic curse, were born into this physical realm. We stumble along now in the darkness until we find the One source of Light to illuminate our paths.
John 1:4 “In Him was light and the light was the light of men”.
Jesus the man is no longer in the world. But His light rules the children of the day and burns t like the lampstand in the temple. Jesus is our power source.
As we walk each day with Him, drawing closer and closer, our lights burn brighter. We see more clearly as we walk according to His plans and purposes, reversing sin’s effect on our vision. God is light. In Him, there is no darkness. The Amplified version of Hebrews 1:3 tells us that Jesus is “the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out raying or radiance of the divine] and He is the perfect imprint and very image of God’s nature…” I love that! Jesus is a light being! When the laser beam of Christ’s light blazes into our souls, it pierces “to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
John 8:12 says, “I am the world’s light. No one who follows Me stumbles around in darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in” (The Message). The word darkness here means “the soul that has lost its perceptive powers”. Without Him, we stumble along in darkness, only able to see with our physical eyes.
Lord, I pray today that You would help us draw near to You, be lights in the world, and draw men unto you by Your perfect light.
