Extravagance

Lord, pry my hands from these lesser things
The ones that work to break my wings
Help me leave them at your throne
Trade them for the plans You know.

The ones You knew before my birth
Even when You formed the earth
Lord, pluck these pains of fear and doubt
Cleanse me, Lord, inside and out.

Let love so freely from You flow
Through my life on earth below
That I no longer may desire
The lesser things of dust and mire.

Take my heart and make it Yours
Lead me into life that’s pure
Peel my fingers one by one
From lesser things and be my Lord.

O’re all my life’s pieces and parts
Build in me a brand-new heart
Heal my wounds and mend my wings
As You pry my hands from lesser things.

  2. Such a wonderful poem this is my prayer!

  3. This is encouraging because I did struggle with worldly, lesser things, being of more importance than my spiritual investments. Boy, did I learn the supernatural lesson of getting that imbalance back in order-God’s order.
It is absolutely true! God even takes the desires away when we obey instead of having them ripped from us and leaving us in destruction.
When we ever learn obedience makes life so much easier?!
Thank you, Jesus, for loving me enough to change my desires and win the battle over my stubbornness.
He gives so much more than our wicked hearts can covet if we obey.
