In 1 Samuel 15:23, Solomon delivered a message from God when Saul refused to carry out God’s precise instructions with the Amelakites: “obedience is better than sacrifice.”
Witchcraft is defined as “sorcery, magic, communication with the devil, or an irresistible fascination or influence” (Webster’s).
We seem to have an irresistible fascination with being independent and operating according to our own plans and purposes without consulting God. We seem to be professionals at justifying our sin and rationalizing any action that we take against guidance of our inward man. We are masters at wrapping our misguided intentions in Holy shrouds just like Saul did when he said, “the soldiers took the best…to sacrifice unto the Lord…” (1 Samuel 15:21). Lack of trust in God often leads us to attempt to shape our own future rather than believing that God truly does have a plan for us from the beginning to the end.
We cannot see all that God sees. He requires of us things that will lead us into the good of the future that only He knows and is only revealed by the trust we offer in our actions today.
“Lord, teach me to trust You today for a better tomorrow.”
